June 2nd--Thorpe Park

Thursday, June 16th--Beaver Creek (on I-17 to Hwy 179--the one that goes to Sedona, but you go left on it to Beaver Creek, park on the right side of the road and cross over to the creek) Meet in the gravel parking lot diagonally across from FCF (on Beaver/Benton) at 9:45 to carpool. Be sure to let a friend know that you are coming so that the group waits for you if you are late! The creek has a rocky/sandy/shady beach area, little cove for swimming and wading, and then some rocks for the bigger kids to jump off of and swim. Bring floaties for the kids!

Thursday, July 7th--Foxglenn Park (on Butler in the Continental/Country Club neighborhood) 10 am--bring hats and sunglasses--no shade on the playground, but covered ramadas available next to it

Thursday, July 21st--Misti Welker's home for water fun, water slide, playground stuff. 5059 S. Pyrite Rd. (in Ponderosa Trails neighborhood--take High Country all the way until it dead-ends, then go right...take a right on the SECOND Pyrite (if you mess up, don't worry, it connects in a loop)

Thursday, August 4th--Bushmaster Park (off of Lockett, in Upper Greenlaw) 10 am--nice shady playground area, paved bike paths

Thursday, August 18th--Lake Mary...meet at FCF to carpool at 9:45 bring shade if you have it!

FUN (and cheap or free) Stuff to Do in Flagstaff with Preschoolers!

Harkins Summer Movie Fun: $5 for 10 kid-friendly movies (or pay individually--$2/person) kids under 3 are free. Movies start at 9:45 am, see Harkins website for more info.

Summit Gymnastics Open Gym: Kids can run and jump and climb to their hearts' content. $5 for first child, $3 for additional children. Mondays and Thursdays 10am-noon, ages 5 and under.

Flagstaff Aquaplex: $3/child (under 3 are free with a paid adult), $5/adult. Make a day of fun at the Aquaplex with swimming in the play pool (complete with slides and fountains), relax in the lazy river, race down the fast water slides, sit in the hottub, or climb the rock wall and play air hockey. Usually less crowded in the morning or evening, but in the summer, it is often closed in the morning due to swim lessons. Childcare available for $2/hour/child. Classes at the Aquaplex are great--especially PeeWee Soccer and Basketball (Saturdays) and Sporties for Shorties (Tues. 11:30 am)

Home Depot FREE craft on the first Saturday of the month from 9am-12pm. It's FREE!

Things Overheard at a MOPS Meeting

Here's some things I've heard some MOPS mommies say recently. I'll only give initials--you can figure out who they were:

"My sister-in-law ran to the computer to check a recipe online and meanwhile, the oil in the pan on the stove caught fire. She ran to get her husband, who was in the shower, and he came running wearing just his towel. He used the towel to grab the flaming pan...and then ran outside with it."

So I brought home my giant potato masher from the quarter auction today, and I put it in our kitchen utensil holder. My husband came home and I showed him and he says, "That's not a potato masher, that's a dry wall mixer." --K.K.

"My kids could eat Windex and they'd be fine." --A.H.

"It's from yesterday." --V.M., responding to a compliment that she looked nice and even had her makeup on at an early morning playdate.

MOPS Meeting--Thurs., November 18

We had a great meeting on Thursday. We heard about dealing with anxiety and worry from one of our own MOPS moms, Anita. We had a silly song (Don't Worry Be Happy) and played speed friendship. We put our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes together and hope they make some kids very happy!
